Two Years

Margot,

This year has gone by so fast. On your last birthday, you were a fresh toddler with a tipsy toddler run, old man hair, and chubby, baby face.
Swimming Makes Me Hungry

Now, you're undeniably a little girl.
Up in the Air

In the last year, you've grown all you teeth, learned to sign, eat with utensils, use the stairs, and mastered running (though a recent growth spurt brought back some awkwardness).

Of course, it's not all giggle fits and hugs.

Your explorations of the world have lead to frantic runs to stop you, whether it's from falling down the stairs, grabbing that knife, or coloring on the couch. And let's not forget the loss of a nap.

There are also some things that happened that were beyond your control. Another move, fire, and a car wreck.

The most amazing thing, though, is that you've become a little person. In most ways you're a typical 2 year old, with tantrums and pig tails and Mr. Potato Head. But beyond seeing what you are, I can see who you are.

You are a smart, kind, strong-willed person. You like water and animals, and you love to eat, especially flavorful foods. But most importantly, you are happy.

I can already see that the coming year will be filled with the demanding force of your personality. You will have many frustrations and disappointments, but I assure you, they will almost certainly be temporary. And I promise you we'll work together as a family to get you through them.

I don't know how I got so lucky as to have you and Mommy in my life, but I know I'm a better man for it.

I love you.

Love,
Daddy
