It's a sign!

Margot is not much of a talker. She can say "Mama, Dadda, and cat" on a pretty regular basis, but she doesn't have a grasp on too many words. She still babbles a lot, laughing to herself about her own little language and probaby insulting us while smiling at our faces. Being a new parent, reading about what other babies her age talk about, I was starting to get a little worried when she marched right up to me and "said":

Mom, I want milk, please!

Our little angel is quite the sign language expert! We have been working with her since she was only a few months old, and recently rented a sign language video just for babies and she has really picked it up! A few of the signs she commonly uses daily are:

Baby
Milk
Water
Eat
Drink
Cat
Horse
Dog
Bird
Blanket
Please
Thank You
Excuse Me
Cracker
Mom
Dad
Grandma
Grandpa
Hurt
Frog
Diaper

It is really quite amazing, to be honest. I have read several times that kids that can sign are less prone to temper tantrums, and I totally believe it. She can communicate with us just about all of her needs, and we are happy to indulge her. It makes for a smoother day and lots of fun interaction.

Now, if we can only figure out the sign for "Make us some dinner and put yourself to bed" we'll have it made.

That is so cool!! Isn't it wonderful when they can communicate to you what they need? It makes things so much easier, and isn't it just fun to see their little minds working in such a big way? I wish I could see her signing. :) We miss you guys!!

That is so cool. I really wish we had done this with Zander from the start. At 19 months, he has no problem communicating with us, but it does involve throwing an object at our face while pointing to what he wants.
