Ow!

So, I have been trying to get a walk in everyday for the last few weeks. I like casually walking with Margot because that means we can go slow, but for these particular walks I have been trying to exercise a little. And I mean a LITTLE; let's not go overboard here, folks. We are talking one or two miles, at a moderate pace, and usually a little rest between. I am trying to get back to a point where I don't consider exercise to be a dirty word, but that is another story. Maybe later in the month when I run out of things to talk about (yeah, right!) we'll launch into that.

Anyways, since the dreaded daylight savings, I have decided that I am going to take my walk during lunch. This is HUGE for me, because I have major issues about sweating at work (or smelling like I have been sweating.) There really just isn't any other way for me to do this, since it is dark when I get home from work, dark when I get up, and I don't have a deathwish. So that pretty much leaves lunchtime. I have just decided to get over it, invest in an extra deodorant stick and keep an extra ponytail holder around to smooth out the crazy hair.

Today was the first day I ventured out, and I felt good about it from the get-go. I had my route mapped around the office, and it was amazing out. I started out quickly, smiling at how wonderful I was, and got about .20 of a mile when *BOOM*! I fell. And I fell hard. We are not talking about a graceful little trip, but a arms-flailing-can't-catch-self-cussing-outloud kind of fall. The frickin' sidewalk had a little lip on it, and I was trying to walk in my mules instead of tennis shoes, and I was paying no attention to where I was going. This resulted in a bruised knee, scraped palms and a serious ego blow. Ugh.

I don't know how many people got to witness my tumble, but three things are going to happen ASAP.

1. Stop acting like a jackass and watch where I am going when walking.
2. Write strongly worded letter to the City of Portland about sidewalks.
3. Pick pride up off floor and brush off.

Hope everyone else had a good Monday! And feel free to share embarrassing stories in the comments!

You should probably threaten the City of Portland with a lawsuit. That's ridiculous! And dangerous. I'm sure nobody saw you. : ) I have a really funny falling story involving platforms shoes I will tell you sometime...it will make you feel better.

Oops, I didn't mean for that to be anonymous.

I love having a lawyer in the family now! I SHOULD sue, huh?? :)

I am still really hoping nobody saw me, but I have a hunch that some kid had a funny story to tell at the dinner table about some crazy woman he saw take a header on SE Stark St.

Gah.

I can SO identify with your fall, Lauren! I fell twice in one day on icy, snowy sidewalks while delivering Avon two years ago, but did enough damage to my shoulder that I ended up having rotator cuff surgery the following year. But the humiliation was the worst part. Hope you're not too sore.
Oh, and keep up the walking. I keep telling myself I'll do the same because I used to walk 2 miles per day and I felt terrific! I have GOT to get back into the routine.

That's true, Helen... I am very thankful that I wasn't injured. I just felt like an idiot :)

I am hoping to keep up the walking! It really is helping me to feel better.

BTW, thanks for the Avon last weekend! I am staring at my newly polished nails right now!

I walk to work almost everyday. I have a serious fear of birds and lately there have been a MILLION of them hanging out at the bottom of our street. Yesterday while waiting to cross the street I felt something hit my hair. I immediately thought that a bird had swooped on me and I FLIPPED out! Well, as it turns out it wasn't so much a swooping as a pooping and I had to go to work with bird shit in my hair. I managed to get it all out but I felt disgusting ALL DAY, not to mention embarrassed.

Liz, not Admin... lol, whew! I am on a roll!!!

Oh, Liz....... That is awful!! I am not a fan of birds either since I went on the Hellgate boat tour in Grants Pass and got to ride the majority of the way with bird crap on my shoulder and ponytail.

Yeah, that was a great day. I especially liked eating dinner with a big nasty splat on my shirt. Gag.

Keep the stories coming, you guys! It is making me feel much better!

I fell at work about six months ago over nothing and it wasn't pretty - it was like a yard sale with McDonald's toys and unmentionable flying everywhere. Not my best moment!

Well, I am happy to report that there were no falls today! Yay!

Lauren, I love my daily walks too! It's seriously the best way for me to chill out every day.

However, because I am the biggest klutz on the planet, I have tons of walking-related embarrassing stories. The most recent: I tripped and totally went flying (but didn't fall) and drove the stroller halfway off the curb. It was a super heavy double stroller with Millie and her cousin in it, so I just had to hold it there while my sister walked back to help me lift it up... and of COURSE it happened on a busy road. So embarrassing! But at least I'm in good company. :)

You make me laugh everytime I read your postings. I can just hear you telling the story and it makes me feel like we aren't a million miles away from each other :(
